So cool when these homes become available and listed for sale on the market! I just toured 19421 Hemmingway Street in Reseda. While it's definitely not in its original, mid-century modern ranch condition and has been remodeled quite a bit over the years, it's definitely still got the signature design of a mid-century modern ranch home. Of course, numerous original Edward Fickett signature details have been changed or covered-up in this particular home, the home, itself, shows beautifully.
What's special about these homes in this tract?
This particular home is located in tract 17373, which is one of several housing tracts in the area that were originally developed by the Sherman Park Development Company in the early 1950s. As you can see here, Raymond Hommes is shown as the building contractor/developer and show as designer is Fickett, Edward H., FAIA, Architect Edward Hale Fickett Architect. This particular tract appears to be one of a couple of separate tracts that were developed in Reseda right around the same time not far from each other.
You can see and verify the original building permit with Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety.
These homes were built during the housing boom of the 1950s and marketed toward military service members returning to the States. Some of the original marketing materials that can be found online is quite entertaining, though there's a lot more that can be found pertaining to the Meadowlark Park development than the Sherman Park tract homes.
